Last Friday I attended a 19th birthday party.  Not for a relative, or someone else’s younger sibling, but for a legitimate friend.  Aside from the fact that people born in 1992 are turning 19 this year, I had an extremely pleasant time getting my friend drunk and reminiscing about my own 19th many years ago.

I was so nostalgic that I thought it would be a good idea to relive some of these moments that night at the Lamplighter.  Unsurprisingly, it was not.  I did, however, blow off some steam while working out my horror of growing older on the dance floor.  In the end, I had a lot of fun being 19 again.  So I present to you a list of places for you to do just the same.

WARNING: You may not actually be 19.  Recovery time will be drastically different if you are not, as will the measure of shame you may feel the morning after your outing.  Not recommended when sober.

The Roxy
Vancouver’s favourite meat market won’t disappoint if you’re looking for trip down memory lane.  The music, the atmosphere, the grinding… you’re in for a treat.  Don’t forget to go to the bar for a temporary Roxy tattoo on your cleavage!

The Blarney Stone
It’s hard not to feel young again when the same band has been playing the same songs for over twenty years.  If you really want to relive your glory days, go upstairs where they still have their hooters for shooters special.

The Lamplighter
There’s a good mix of ages here so you won’t necessarily feel like the oldest one in the club.  It’s packed to the brim, a little sweaty, and full of guys on the prowl.  Strut in sporting a mini and you won’t pay for a drink all night.

Decadance at Honey
Decadance features the actual music that played at your high school dances and early club experiences.  Well… if you were born in the eighties.  Shake your booty to Nelly’s “Hot in Here”, 50 Cent’s “In Da Club”, Lil Jon’s “Get Low”, and all your other favourites that only sound reasonable in a club.~Meghan Roberts
