Believe it or not I waited 24 years to get my first facial. I know, right? I’m definitely a girl that likes a little pampering (on a budget, of course), so it’s surprising that it took me this long to get my butt in gear for this treat.

I dropped by the skoah location at Metrotown for two reasons: 1) Many of my friends swear by their products and; 2) I had a coupon. I didn’t really know what to expect other than some moisturizer and hot towels, so I went in a little nervous.

The Metrotown location looks compact, but a door slides to reveal a hallway of calming rooms in the patent skoah colours. It’s like a little back door to some magic spa in the middle of mall hell. The woman doing my facial was extremely understanding of my ignorance, and walked me through the steps with no condescension (even when I asked fairly obvious questions).

She talked me through what products she was going to use before letting me pass out for the rest of the experience. I opted for the Fitskin facial, which included two masks and an upper arm, shoulder, and neck massage. Regular price: $70. Not freakin’ bad for a massage and facial.

I particularly liked their realistic skin care advice, like washing your face right when you get home if you know you’re staying there. As someone who barely makes it from the couch to the bed, I appreciated this simplistic way to ensure a proper regime. I ended up buying the aha exfoliating mask, so I can finally rid myself of the St. Ives Apricot Scrub. Another step away from high school and towards adulthood…

I know I’ll be back. I can’t deny it. My skin felt soft for days, and it’s a sweet treat for a sweet price. I never thought I’d recommend Metrotown for relaxation, but a quick trip to skoah will whisk your worries away.
