There are many of us who just can’t handle more than a few sips of the sweet summer cocktails that populate Toronto patio menus. With the launch of Spearhead Brewery, however, ladies with a sweet tooth that lacks, or a blender that remains broken, can rejoice!

Spearhead Brewery and their beer-without-boundaries mentality brings a unique, unfiltered West Coast Pale Ale brewed with Pineapple. We were invited to taste the first pints of this complex beverage, which I would describe as hoppy and full bodied with a touch of citrus.

Founder Dimitri van Kampen’s passion for craft beer has brought this Hawaiian Style Pale Ale to more than 30 establishments around the GTA, including favourites like Sweaty Betty’s. He calls the brew “Aloha in a bottle.”

The west coast style of extreme brewing has been slowly making its way to Ontario, a movement that challenges traditional categories of beer making by using distinctive flavours and processes to get people thinking differently about beer. With brewers like Dimitri and his team at the forefront of this movement, we have a lot to look forward to in the Toronto craft beer scene!
