Friday – Lab Magazine Party, 8pm; to celebrate their departure into filmmaking, Lab Mag will be hosting their last event until December with a crazy musical lineup (Walter TV, Junior Major, Small Fame & the final band before the DJ is Humans, who are a fun, synth based melding of pop, reggae and alt-rock, like a dirtier Postal Service, a cleaner Man Man)) @ The Biltmore, 623 Kingsway

Sunday – Outdoor Movie, and it’s a surprise? Picnic @ noon, movie at dusk. Bring a seat, blanket or inflatable pool to take in an 80’s classic (rumored to be Back to the Future) @ David Lam Park in Yaletown.

FESTIVALS
Saturday & Sunday – Chinatown Festival, 12-6pm; introducing the new mascot, Muse! The Panda. His identity was long debated, and now that his creation is complete, his task is to bring people back into Vancouver’s Chinatown. Start this weekend at the festival: yummy food stalls, multicultural stage performances, between Columbia and Keefer.

Sunday – Latin Summer Festival, 10th Annual, 11am-7pm; Trout Lake/John Hendry Park, featuring musical performances including salsa, flamenco and reggae, an open outdoor dance floor (yes!), Latin-American edibles and more in East Van.

ART
Friday – Art & Sole, 7-11pm; a ‘arty for the shoe thrown by painters, sculptors, illustrators, graffiti & conceptual artists. Yes – you can buy!
