Now in its 10th year, [FAT] – Arts & Fashion Week has become one of our favourite events in the city. An art gallery, fashion runway, and stage all rolled into one; it’s completely unique and something we look forward to all year.

This year’s theme, #MADEinCANADA pays homage to influences drawn from Canadian art, design, technology and history, and celebrates the complexities and richness of our culture.

The magic happens between April 21 and April 25, with over 200 artists, designers, performers and filmmakers showcasing their best. Here’s what we’re looking forward to most:

Evan Biddell makes his triumphant return to the runway with his latest collection, More Than Human. Imagine a post-human world ruled by androgynous cyborgs, galactic beings, cybernetic codes and fluid bodies…as interpreted by one of the most talented and creative minds in the Canadian fashion industry. WE CAN’T WAIT.

Parloque is one of our favourite shops in the city. From ginormous wrap-around woven leather scarves to pony hair knapsacks and the coolest streetwear, it never disappoints.

Sandra  – Sandra Al-Dabbagh’s collection, Artemics, is inspired by fractal art, harmonographs, symbols, 3D calculus functions and other elements of the scientific and mathematical world we wish we understood. That being said, we think her collection is stunning and can’t wait to see the laser cut detailing, fabric manipulation and original fabric prints (which the young designer created herself using computer software) in person.

First World Fashion – created by Laura Gildner & Sarah Jay, this installation responds to the Western fashion industry’s role in the Bangladesh’s Rana Play factory collapse.

House of Etiquette asks the question, what does one wear clubbing in the dystopian future? Designer duo Ashley Davies and Mina Smart have created a gorgeous collection of high-end latex wear that’s all #MADEinCANADA.
