7 pm “The Beaver Goes Logging & the Legend of Bison Hughy” Opening Reception @ gallerywest, 1172 Queen St. W. “The Legend of Bison Hughy tells the story of a man whose life is transformed by a surprise (and potentially deadly) encounter with a bison in Northern Saskatchewan. Now obsessed, Hughy tries to become a bison and follow in the small but significant tradition of spiritually-driven people, who alienated from their own heritage, immerse themselves in adopted cultures of apparent balance and wholeness. The Beaver goes Logging: this short video features a man who dresses up in a Beaver costume whilst firewood logging in the rugged hinterlands of British Columbia.” Until 10 pm. American artist Brendan Monroe’s first solo exhibition in Toronto. “Through a series of paintings and sculptures, Monroe tells a story of a world filled with unique personalities and imaginary organisms. Monroe cultivates a taste for scientific challenges, relationships to math, the properties in physics, and the surreal. His dream-like scenes overflow with cellular shapes, creating a landscape set on a universal level.” Until 10 pm. Exhibition runs until March 25th.
