Here are some of the albums we can’t get enough of right now!

Joanna Newsom: Divers

divers

Joanna Newsom told Uncut magazine that her latest release was inspired by her marriage to comedian Andy Samberg and the “fear of loss” that comes with being with someone you can’t bear to be without. It’s her most accessible album yet, but still maintains the complexity and ambition fans have come to expect from the harp-wielding singer-songwriter.

Divers is packed full of references to history and mythology, particularly on “Sapokanikan,” a playful, piano-driven track that alludes to Percy Shelley and Horace Smith’s Ozymandias sonnets and New York’s famous “Boy Mayor” John Purroy Mitchel. On “Leaving The City,” twinkling harps give way to electric guitars and pounding drums while Newsom sings about escaping to the countryside. The stripped-down “A Pin-Light Bent” is one of the album’s strongest tracks, and also one of the saddest, as Newsom grapples with the fragility of life.

Martin Courtney: Many Moons

Many Moons marks the solo debut of Real Estate singer/guitarist Martin Courtney. It’s not the first side project spawned by the Brooklyn-based indie rockers, but it’s easily the best.

The 10-track effort is comforting and laidback, reminiscent of the folk-rock records of the 1970s. Nostalgia is a central theme here, which Courtney says was influenced by him becoming a father and seeing things from a different perspective. “Northern Highway” talks about venturing off on your own and the need for a new start, while “Vestiges” finds Courtney coming to the realization that “the more things change the more they stay the same.” It’s an enjoyable listen from top to bottom, and hopefully won’t be the last solo project from Courtney.

LÉON: Treasure

Sweden has gifted us with a lot of talented pop artists over the years, from Abba to Robyn and Lykke Li. The country’s latest export is LÉON, whose debut single, “Tired Of Talking,” has been streamed nearly three million times on Spotify and earned her a shout-out from Katy Perry.

Treasure is the packs quite the punch for only consisting of four songs. Produced by Agrin Rahmani, the EP perfectly showcases LÉON’s infectious, soulful vocals and is sure to leave fans wanting more.
