Broods – composed of sibling duo Georgia and Caleb Nott – released their latest album, Conscious, on June 24. Conscious is the follow-up to Broods’ 2014 debut album, Evergreen, which contained the singles “Bridges” and “Mother & Father” and climbed into the Top 10 of Billboard’s Alternative Albums chart. They will kick off their North American headline tour in Washington, DC, and the pair will play in Toronto on August 6 as part of Time Festival.

SDTC: What spaces in Toronto do you love?

Broods: Anywhere next to the water. There are some nice spots!

What aisle do you spend the most time in at the grocery store?

I spend a lot of time looking at cheese and thinking about buying it but not buying it.

What would you do with 1 million bucks?

I’d love to say something really interesting but if I’m honest I’d probably just pay off my parents’ mortgage, take my whole family on a holiday and invest the rest.

The receipts in your wallet would indicate what?

That I stop at a lot of gas stations. We’ve been driving around doing press for the past three weeks.

What was your high school yearbook pet peeve?

Yearbooks aren’t really a thing where I’m from. To be honest I’ve never looked through a “yearbook” in my life. My pet peeve definitely would’ve been bad hair extensions though. Let’s be honest, they’re not fooling anyone.

What would you be if you weren’t musicians?

Ideally, I would run a yoga studio upstairs from my sister’s flower shop (that she is yet to get), with a dog walking company that I run on the side. Yoga in the morning and afternoon, and walk the dogs in between. Caleb would be a furniture designer and I would get free furniture.

What makes you happy?

Being near water, or family, or dogs. And of course writing and playing music.

What makes you cringe?

Songs that I wrote when I was a kid. They’re hilariously bad.

What, in your opinion, is overrated?

Bras. I hate them. I’m so glad my tiny boobs don’t require them.

Person you’d most like to meet?

Stevie Nicks.

What is the best thing you did all week?

Went to my first baseball game! It was at Wrigley in Chicago. They have a live organist that’s been playing there for thirty years. Someone comes out and sings the “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” song and the stadium itself is 102 years old, so it was pretty sweet. Plus I tried deep dish pizza for the first time. Soooo gooood!

Describe your perfect Saturday.

Thirty degrees Celsius, on a boat, with no work to do.

Describe the funniest thing you’ve ever witnessed.

When we moved to LA we were on our way to a gig (stuck in traffic of course), and there was a lady driving up the other side of the road, against the traffic, in reverse. Whenever a car came she would just stop with her hazard lights on and let them go around her. It was as if she was going in for a parallel park from 500 metres away. Part of me thinks she was a genius but part of me thinks she was nuts.

What word or phrase should we all use more?

Hakuna Matata. I love The Lion King. I think I’m gonna try to make it happen.
