As kids we dream of what we want to be when we grow up.  Astronaut, pop star, president – the options are endless. Years later, we grow up only to realize that our ambitious dream scenerios – more often than not – didn’t quite pan out. But not all is lost.

These dreams and aspirations of our formative years if at some level unrequited…can turn into fantasies. Some fantasize about owning acres of farmland or fancy cars, but the most fun we can have as adults in fantasyland is rooted in sex.

For one girl named Leah the fantasy was to be a porn star.

Unlike most of us though, over the last five years, she has managed to turn her fantasy into a booming reality.

Today, as Maxine X, she is one of the stars of Webdreams, a reality-style show which follows major (and not so major) players of the porn scene. Aside from shock value and novelty of subject matter…we get to see real, incredibly driven people who are (literally) working their asses off to make a name for themselves in the adult entertainment industry.

In their always adorably entertaining Webdreams segments, Maxine and her husband/business partner Scott seem to have it all going on – thriving careers, love, companionship, charisma and predictably hot sex. But things aren’t often the way they seem, especially on TV. I couldn’t wait to get in bed with them (figuratively) and see what they’re really about.

Although she’s a petite girl, Maxine’s personality is larger than life and within seconds of meeting her it is clear that she is completely in charge of her career, image, and what is and isn’t inserted into her anus.  Butt we’ll get back to that later…

Maxine is by no means an over night success…she has a wicked background in fetish and is often regarded as the Fetish Queen of Canada. Her websites and movies have found a loyal following in the US and Europe.

So how did she get into the adult industry in the first place?

“It wasn’t a decision, it was something that kind of happened. Funny thing, just before that I actually ran a daycare centre,” Maxine reveals.

When Maxine and Scott first got together, “we’d look up porn on the websites and be like oooh that’s so hot.” At one point, Maxine suggested that it would be fun to plug the camera into the TV and watch themselves having sex.  Maxine recalls…“When I started seeing models – mainly fetish models – I related to them, I wanted to be like that.”

Taking it one step further, Maxine tried out for Playboy but didn’t fit their antiquated plastic mold. To remind her that she shouldn’t take the rebuff too seriously, Scott took some pictures of her instead.

Meanwhile, Maxine kept on loving the porn. Unlike most women, she made a point of seeking out the most hardcore pics she could of “bondage girls and fuck machines, and all I kept thinking was – I want to try that!

Ironically enough, before Scott, Maxine wasn’t sexually experimental; WHAT?

“I got bored…I’d watch TV during sex. He made it exciting for me.”

It was also Scott who got Maxine her very first toy when she was 25. That certainly got the ball rolling. “I began progressing in our relationship, and learning how to be open and comfortable with my new partner.”

Sexual liberation is one thing, but how did it lead to fetish, which seems quite a bit more evolved.

“He [Scott] let me dominate him first. So I got to wear this little motorcycle helmet like Madonna. I grew up with Madonna. I was 16 when her sex book came out and those were the first images with fetish that I ever saw and she made me feel so sexy. And that’s what attracted me to it years later. So I like to dress up. And it totally empowers me. Once I got there, it was like okay, it’s your turn now.”  Lucky Scott.

In fact, their favourite fetish as a couple is bondage.  Maxine credits it for releasing blocks she’s had with sex in the past.

“I used to even control my orgasms. If I was about to have one I would stop it in my head. And that’s ridiculous, but I had to feel like I was in control of my body.” But Maxine does remind us that fetish should be taken gradually and in a trusting environment.

Before long, they had put up a small website and began attending fetish parties and conventions. Maxine also began doing shoots.

“I would get $500 to just have fun, I was with my husband, and there was no trauma. Somebody would give us a little rope and I’d do damsel in distress, and maybe get turned on with a toy. And (Scott) would always be with me so it would be this kinky adventure for us.”

Maxine performed girl-on-girl initially and didn’t do boy girl without her husband until much later in her career. “It was all about comfort, trust and deciding together.” Any men who Maxine has been with in her videos, are all people she’s already known.

So how has Maxine’s sexual awakening over the last five years changed her life? “I am a happier person and happier wife, and we have a happy marriage because my husband and I have the relationship we do. Some people think we have an open relationship, and we don’t. We have played with other people, but it’s different. We talk it over and we know our boundaries are…he tells me he loves me everyday.”

So is Maxine X simply her porn and company name or is there an alter ego involved?

Most definitely, but she admits to feeling like a regular girl most of time.

“I mean, I’m Leah, I was raised Jewish, right?” As a product of Cambodian birth and adoptive Jewish parents – Maxine is definitely not your typical fantasy girl. And maybe that’s her immense appeal.

At that point, Scott comes into the living room beaming and declares, “Maxine can squirt on and off for about an hour.” Really?

Squirting fortunately is Maxine’s specialty. But can every woman squirt? This question is very common in my gaggle of girlfriends and comes up on just about every drunken occasion. Luckily, Maxine believes that most, if not all, women can eventually squirt.

Maxine reveals some of her secrets.

“If you can get wet and get the fluid you can most likely squirt. Most women don’t even squirt until they’re 25. I didn’t squirt till that age either.”

First, Maxine suggests finding your G-spot when you’re turned out. Another tip is to use a curved toy.

“Most women mentally block their orgasm by running to the bathroom, so if you feel it, keep going, DON’T stop!” Apparently drinking water in advance helps too.

“Some girls put it as a goal to squirt. What you need to do is get to a point when you’re not thinking about it – booze helps,” she laughs.

So what does she think of Scott’s business savvy?

“My husband does all the hard work while I get to have all the fun.” (Something tells me Scott doesn’t mind too much.) His responsibilities include all the editing, producing, directing, cover art, shooting, management of 3 websites, and the occasional on-camera romp.

In fact, Scott holds a record for producing the most films in a three-year period – seventy-six full-length features to be exact. There’s potential for a few length records in this family.

For a girl clearly on the move maybe larger pastures is the right direction. Maxine doesn’t necessarily agree and points out one city as a good example. “L.A. is a total monster,” she pauses, “the porn studios there will eat you up and spit you out. In L.A. they like their starlets, but they prefer girls who don’t have big names. They will sign you, cast you in a film and make you do a ton of promotion for it, but just as quickly as it starts, they sign someone else.” Not only that, but there’s a ton of pressure from directors and studio honchos for young models to do anal scenes. Many first time models find themselves on shoots where they have toys thrust into them prematurely, leading to ripping and other unpleasantries.

Luckily there is a much friendlier path in Toronto, and young media entrepreneurs like Maxine and Scott are showing us the light. Maxine agrees: “There are a lot of women who have their own businesses. They have their own websites, they run their own production companies. And I’m proud to be a part of women in power in porn. Girl power!”

You can catch Maxine on Webdreams every Friday at 10pm on Showcase!
