When did you know you were going to be a designer?

I think the first whisper was when I was around 5 years old. I remember watching fashion shows on TV with my mom. I then revisited the idea in high school when I was making my own clothing because my taste far outreached my resources. However, it wasn’t until I completed university (for an unrelated degree) before I decided to give it an honest try.

Where do you find inspiration for your collections?

I don’t know and I try not to question it too much. I usually start thinking about any given season one year prior. Then the time comes when I HAVE to get ideas on paper because my team needs work. Once I start putting pencil to paper the ideas just come out.

What are the 3 skills you require most to do your job well?

Energy, energy, and more energy!

What do you love most about your career?

Everything! Well, excluding dealing with late or lost shipments.

Describe your label in three words.

Chic, sensual, tailored

Describe your personal style in three words.

Anything goes. It depends on the season and mood I am in.

What is the biggest challenge you face working in Canada?

Canada has its pro’s and con’s. However, I think the biggest challenge for all industries in this country is Canada’s small and conservative market (the duties don’t help matters either).

If you could change one thing about the Canadian fashion industry what would it be?

I wouldn’t really change anything. Canada’s fashion scene is growing up it’s just a matter of time before we are a major force. I believe we have gone through a real growth spurt the last few years.

What designers have influenced you?

Alexander McQueen and Donna Karen are really the 2 designers who influence me consistently.

What trends are you most excited about for Fall/Winter 08?

The return to dressing.

Who would you love to see wearing your duds?

Susan Sarandon, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Angelina Jolie, Cate Blanchet and Kim Katrell

Describe your perfect day.  Where would you go? What would you do? What are your favourite spots in Canada – coffee shops, boutiques, fabric stores – we want to know!

My perfect day is shopping in Paris with my husband.

However, when in T.O. my Saturday’s are my perfect days.

I always start with tea at the tea emporium in Hazelton Lanes, then a little work-out and yoga class at the Yorkville club.

I then head over for ice cream at Summers as I do a little shopping in Yorkville.
