Lipstick has made a comeback.

What girl doesn’t feel a little bit giddy after she walks out of a department store with a brand new lipstick?  After all, with the possibilities that a little bullet of colour represents and its ability to create a “new you”: pink for girly, muted rose for demure, and red for sexy siren – what’s not to love about lipstick?

For quite a few seasons, lipstick took a back seat to gloss and tinted lip balms. Lipsticks were deemed “high maintenance” and too much effort; but lately, strong bold lips are all over the place and cosmetic companies are creating formulas that are rich, hydrating and wearable.

If you want to bring lipstick into your make-up wardrobe, here are a few favourite brands and colours to look for the next time you are visiting the cosmetic counters.

– MAC Cosmetics Cremesheen Lipsticks in Modesty and Hot Gossip: MAC’s latest lipstick formulation provides all the colour of a matte lipstick but the moisture and fluidity of a cream.  Pick up Hot Gossip for a universally flattering pink or Modesty for a go to neutral.

Bobbi Brown Creamy Lip Colour in Retro Pink: Formulated to leave lips smooth and moisturized, you can get a range of colours from this line that provide rich colour and high shine – perfect if you aren’t ready to give up your lip gloss!  Be on trend for spring and pick up this bright pink.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Intense Wear Lipstick in Alarm or Red Hot: This long lasting formula keeps lips moist without sacrificing the colour.  There are 30 shades to choose from plus it’s affordable – so if you’re planning to try a bold new colour, like red, look here first!

MAC is available at MAC stores or The Bay; Bobbi Brown is available at Holt Renfrew; and Rimmel Cosmetics are available at Shoppers Drug Mart or Wal-Mart.
