8pm. Opening Night: Far From the Maddening Crowd @ Rialto Theatre, 5723 Parc. When was the last time you went to the theatre? Exactly. Persephone Productions presents an adaption of Thomas Hardy’s 1874 novel ‘Far From the Maddening Crowd’. The production is on-going daily and nightly until October 26 at Rialto, and moves to Victoria Hall (4626 Sherbrooke West) for three performances from October 28 to 30. $14 for students, $25 general admission. Montreal Stop Motion Film Festival @ J.A. de Sève Theatre, 1453 Mackay. In its third year, Montreal’s Stop Motion Film Festival graces Concordia University with a great program of films, and panel discussions with stop motion animation experts, conferences and hands-on workshops. Bloody Valentines: 48-hour Horror Filmmaking Competition @ Montreal’s Psychotronic Film Centre, 3660 St-Laurent, 3rd floor. Have you got what it takes? Ten aspiring filmmaking teams will compete for the title of Best Short Horror Film in this insane 48-hour dash. Each team will be given a horror subgenre, prop and line of dialogue that must be incorporated into the final product. All films will be screened on October 29th. 11am to 6pm. Old Skool Crafts Fair: Halloween Carnival @ St-Michael’s Church basement, 105 St-Viateur West. Just in time for Halloween and the cold weather, Montreal’s Old Skool Crafts gang is holding a fantastic Halloween-themed arts n’ crafts fair. Over 50 vendors will showcase their one-of-a-kind jewellery, bath and beauty products, illustrations and photographs, hula hoops, clothing, cupcakes and more! Free entry.

3:30pm. Montreal Zombie Walk @ Mont-Royal Metro Station (corner Berri and Mont-Royal). The living-dead once again invade our fair city for an afternoon stumble n’ groan across town to Club Soda where famous zombie movies will be screened for the remainder of the afternoon and evening. Deck yourself out in blood/severed body parts/rags/braaaaaains and join in the fun! Free. 

SUNDAY OCTOBER 23

11pm. Le Jour du Sabbat (Metal Night) @ Salon Officiel, 351 Roy. Have you been to Salon Officiel’s metal night yet? It’s exactly what it sounds like: hard as f*ck. And this week, Calgary’s beer-brewing, Isis-loving Jordan Meadows will guest-DJ two 45-minute sets. Monday morning’s are stupid, anyway.
